JAFO Construction OHS Awareness introduces project personnel to the health and safety responsibilities, documents and controls that support safer construction work in South Africa. It is suitable as an awareness foundation and does not replace role-specific competency training or statutory appointments.

South African construction framework
Learners receive an overview of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Regulations, including the roles of clients, designers, principal contractors, contractors and competent appointees. The exact duties depend on the project, work scope and current regulations.
Planning before work begins
Awareness covers client specifications, health and safety plans, notification or permit considerations, appointments, risk assessments, safe work methods, inductions and emergency arrangements. Documents must reflect the project rather than being copied unchanged from another site.
Common construction hazards
The programme introduces controls for work at height, excavations, mobile plant, electricity, lifting, tools, temporary works, housekeeping, falling objects, hazardous substances and public interfaces. Specialist activities require competent supervision, task-specific planning and additional training.
Site behaviour and communication
Learners discuss site rules, personal protective equipment, access control, toolbox talks, stop-work escalation and reporting of hazards, near misses and incidents. Employees should understand both their duties and the channels for raising concerns.
Contractor and subcontractor control

Inspections, files and close-out
Construction safety files should contain current, relevant evidence. Training highlights inspections, action tracking, incident records and handover. Paperwork should support controls observed on site.

JAFO can discuss corporate or on-site awareness sessions in Johannesburg, Gauteng and other South African locations. The proposal will identify duration, topics, assessment and certificate type. Project-specific legal roles may require separate accredited, unit-standard or competency-based programmes where applicable.

No. Awareness training does not automatically satisfy qualification, registration, experience or project-specific competency requirements.
