The final course level must match the work, equipment, applicable regulations and role of each learner. General awareness does not authorise a person to perform every elevated task or specialised fall-arrest function.

Course topics
Depending on the booked scope, learners may cover fall hazards, risk assessment, the hierarchy of controls, safe access, edge protection, work positioning, fall restraint, fall arrest, equipment inspection, anchorage concepts, dropped-object prevention and emergency response.
Fall protection planning
Where the Construction Regulations apply, fall-risk work requires a suitable fall protection plan prepared by a competent person. The plan should address task-specific risk, training, equipment, medical fitness where required, inspection, maintenance and rescue arrangements. Training must operate within that approved system.
Equipment selection and inspection
Harnesses, connectors, lanyards and anchor systems must be appropriate to the task and used according to manufacturer instructions and the workplace plan. Learners are introduced to pre-use checks and defect reporting. Formal inspection or specialised equipment certification may require additional competence.
Rescue readiness
A worker suspended after a fall may face urgent medical risk. Organisations should have a task-appropriate rescue plan, trained people, suitable equipment and a tested communication process. Calling emergency services alone may not be an adequate rescue plan for every site.
